Yes, We Traveled During Covid in 2020

It was a scary time in the world in 2020. Everyone was ordered to stay home and quarantine, public parks were shut down and covered in yellow caution tape, the National Guard was deployed to guard stores from riots and just about every city had a curfew. Different places across the country were either welcoming guest to their town or telling them to stay away with luminated street signs as you pass into the town.

This was completely unplanned as are most of our trips. I'm not sure about my husband but I know I was nervous with so much going on in the world and Covid-19 breaking news was a constant.

Here are some of the places we went and things that we witnessed across the country.

  • Crazy Horse and Mount Rushmore: The Black Hills are one of my favorite places in the country. It was amazing to drive through a mountain tunnel and have a perfect view of Mount Rushmore.

  • Yellowstone: We got there the first day they opened after the Covid shutdown. The park was void of people and the wildlife was thriving. If you've been to Yellowstone, you know how busy they can be. This was a treat for sure.

  • George Floyd: We were leaving Wisconsin and headed west when we found ourselves in Minneapolis. We walked the streets where George Floyd took his last breath and the people stood up. They had the area blocked off and the streets were a huge memorial.

  • Los Angeles, CA.: Rodeo Dr. was boarded up with the National Guard guarding each store. There were very few people out as they were quarantine by day and some rioting by night.

  • Gatlinburg, TN: This was like no other place we visited during covid. Most of the places we went to were under restrictions during our travels. We get here and there were people everywhere drinking and not wearing the masks that were required everywhere else across the country. Note it was spring by then and people were tired of being locked away during the winter months.

We decided to share this story with hopes that it inspires you to adventure and live life even when things are a little scary.
